Each year, students currently enrolled at Georgia College who plan to return the following academic year have the opportunity to apply for Institutional Scholarships for Returning Students. Note that these scholarships are not available to incoming freshmen or transfer students.
Alumni and Foundation Scholarships
General criteria for most of these scholarships are as follows:
Full-time enrollment for Fall and Spring semesters (12 hours for undergraduate and 9 hours for graduate)
Completion of 24 hours for undergraduate/18 hours for graduate at Georgia College by the end of Spring Semester (students may apply before completion of these hours)
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA; however, these scholarships are competitive.
Students will be matched to scholarships based on their application answers. Please note that actual offerings for the upcoming academic year may change as funding is determined on a yearly basis. The scholarship application is typically available late Fall Semester for the upcoming academic year with most deadlines being in mid-February. The Financial Aid Office notifies all enrolled students by e-mail when the application is available and when the final deadline will be each year.

Georgia College students who have applied for a study abroad program may also apply for the Georgia College Study Abroad scholarship fund. Undergraduate students interested in pursuing research while studying abroad may apply for the GC Global Citizen Award, which is a much larger award, but also much more competitive. Students who apply for, but are not accepted to the Global Citizen Award will automatically be considered for the GC Study Abroad Scholarship; only one application necessary. Applications are completed online through the study abroad application website. Be sure to submit applications by the posted deadlines.

Chemistry Research and Travel

- Beginning freshmen enrolled in Chemistry Freshmen Seminar course
- Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Demonstrate the necessary determination to complete a B.S. degree in Chemistry at Georgia College

Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship
The Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship allows the Financial Aid office to offer a maximum Pell Grant award to qualifying undergraduate students. This award is offered to students whose parent or guardian died in the line of duty while performing as a public safety officer while the student was less than 24 years of age or enrolled in an institution of higher education. To be eligible, students must complete a FAFSA and be eligible for a partial award of the Pell Grant. Students must submit a request to be considered for this award along with supporting documentation of their parent or guardian’s death in the line of duty.

Private Scholarships may come from a variety of sources. Check with your hometown civic organizations (such as Kiwanis Club, Elks Lodge, etc.), your place of worship, banks, credit unions, business organizations and other associations. They often have scholarships that are not advertised.

Generally, private scholarships greater than $1000 are evenly divided between fall and spring semesters, while awards $1000 or less are applied in full to one semester, unless this conflicts with the scholarship donor's stipulations or federal aid regulations.
